International Night

Here in Aalborg Wednesday Nights are International Nights at the Student House. The Student House is a building off campus in the center of town that is gathering place for students. The main attraction is the bar. Unlike many universities in the States, alcohol is a part of University life. In fact at Aalborg there are 7 so called student bars that are open on a weekly basis mostly catering to a groups of students. The idea is a place to grab a beer and sit and chat with friends for a few hours. Tonight was my second attendance at International Night and I am glad I went. What is special about international night is it targeted towards foreign students. Thus on wednesdays the place is full of students from all over the world, it is so exciting. Last time I met students from france, spain and italy. Tonight I got to talk to 3 students from Portugal. One of the most exciting things about being here in Aalborg is meeting students from around the world. 

In all of my classes and practically anywhere I go, it is so fun just to talk to people and hear what country they are from. One of the friends I have made, Juan, who I think is from Brazil loves LOST (the tv show on abc) so it exciting to be able to talk to him about the show. I am meeting so may exciting and interesting people here in Aalborg I love it!

One of the main reason I went to the Student House tonight was to meet my buddy for the first time. AAU (Aalborg University) has a buddy program that pairs up international students with a Danish student to helper/mentor. The kick off event was last week but unfortunately my buddy could not be there so today was the first time I got to meet her. She is pretty nice but right now she has a lot going on. She is moving and she and her boyfriend are expecting a baby. She tried to ask me questions about settling in and such but I have been here for around two weeks so many of things she asked about I had already figured out. I am sure she will be  able to help me with some stuff and less with others.
